John joined the Post Office Engineering Group in 1980 as a Draughtsman based at the Manchester office working on layout and design drawings for various Mechanical and Electrical Services. He was promoted to Leading Draughtsman in the NDC Leeds Office managing the Mechanical and Electrical Services and the Building Services Drawing Office in 1985.

Following a series of re-organisation, John was promoted to Design Engineer in 1998 and a year later to Senior Design Engineer. After a period as Temporary Associate in Leeds, John was promoted to Associate in charge of the Edinburgh practice in 1999.

In 2005 John was promoted to Associate Director. He is responsible for the management of the Edinburgh practice including its business development, in addition to project managing a number of National Schemes.

In 2007 John was promoted to Director with responsibility for the management of the Edinburgh and Leeds Practices including business development and project managing a number of National Schemes.
