Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kathy B. Cheek has excelled as a dance instructor, dance studio owner, choreographer, college theatre director, and academic researcher. She studied theatre arts, voice and dance at the University of Cincinnati, and in New York. Kathy also has an extensive performing background, with appearances in a musical review at New York's famed Roosevelt Ballroom, two productions with Gregory Hines, and several musicals for the Beef 'n' Boards Dinner Theatre chain.

As the owner and operator of Kathy's School of Dance for eighteen years (1982-2000), which she recently sold to her protégé, Kathy enjoyed working with children and young adults between the ages of 3-22. Her students have danced professionally at Opryland and Busch Gardens, toured the country as Caravan Kids, and won first place in the 1993 National Stars of Tomorrow competition.
Kathy functioned as choreographer for the Rockingham County Theatre Guild in North Carolina from 1989-1999.
From 1998 until May 2000 Kathy served as Theatre Director at Brewton-Parker College in Mount Vernon, Georgia. In this capacity, she supervised all aspects of the College's theatre program, including budgetary and promotional concerns, as well as directing all productions.

In January of 2006 she assumed ownership of the Savannah Conservatory of Dance in Vidalia, Georgia, supervising and teaching a wide variety of dance and Kindermusik classes. Her studio offers a comprehensive dance program, while stressing classical approaches and individualized attention. She is also a student of social and political thought, with a special interest in Christian social teaching. Along with her husband, Kathy edited Political Philosophy and Cultural Renewal (Transaction Publishers/Rutgers University, 2001), and Order and Legitimacy (Transaction Publishers/Rutgers University, 2004). Kathy is married to Dr. Lee Cheek, who is Chair of the Social and Behavioral Sciences Division at Brewton-Parker College.
