Mr. Cheek was a territory salesman for GE Supply, managed Athens Electric and was opening manager for both Farm Electric and Electrical Wholesale, Athens. He founded the original Progressive Lighting in Athens. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the Masons, Rotary Club, Civitan, Lions Club, and was a member of Morgan Falls Baptist Church, Dunwoody, St. Gregory's Episcopal Church, Chamblee, Emanuel Episcopal Church, Athens, and Colbert Methodist Church. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at McDonald & Son Funeral Home, Cumming. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery, Sandy Springs. Survivors include his wife, Joan Anderson Cheek; three daughters, Peggie Queen, Dawsonville, Linda Collier, Colbert, and Robin Runyan, Cumming; a son, David Cheek, Nicholson; a sister, Laura Helen Sprull, Ellijay; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; neices and nephews.
