YAKIMA - Beverly J. Baker-Huysman-Cheek, age 73, passed away on December 22, 2004, at Yakima, Memorial Hospital of complications from diabetes and a broken neck that she received from a fall.
She was born in Yakima on January 21, 1931, to Everett Atwater Baker and Gladys Jones. Bev graduated from Wapato High School at the age of sixteen and then attended Yakima Valley College and Yakima Business College. As a young woman she was active in Christian Youth organizations and was a current member of the Ahtanum Pioneer Church. She was a past Worthy Matron of the Selah Chapter of Eastern Star.
While attending business school in Yakima, she worked for the Yakima Herald Republic newspaper and then was associated with several fruit companies. Eventually, she was employed as a fruit broker for several years.
She and C.R. (Chuck) Cheek were married on
August 20, 1971. After their marriage, they moved from Selah and resided in the Kittitas/ Ellensburg area where her husband, Chuck, was a Sergeant with the Washington State Patrol. She and her husband returned to Yakima to live in 1981.
Beverly loved young people and was active in sports and the Boy Scouts when her sons were young. She was
