   Cathy Foster and Alza Cheek, both Democrats seeking to replace Oakley, will face each other in the May 18 primary.

   Alza Cheek was born and raised in Massachusetts. She joined the Army and came to Arkansas to serve as a MP at Fort Chaffee during the Cuban boat people crisis in 1980. She later settled in Beebe to be near her brother, who was stationed at the Air Force base in Jacksonville.
   
   Cheek worked as a police officer at UAMS in Little Rock, and moved to the Searcy police department in June to take a job as a crimes against women investigator.
   
   She is married to Fred Cheek, an investigator with the Sheriff's Department. She has two children.
