Mr Ah Chee is of Southern Arrente, Yankuntjarra, Wankunguura and Chinese descent. Mr Ah Chee was the first Indigenous representative on the ATC Board and was appointed in August 2000. His experience in the tourism industry and Aboriginal business development brings to the ATC in-depth understanding of the Indigenous tourism sector.
Mr Ah Chee is a current and past representative on many Boards, and has had held many significant positions over the last 10 years, including his recent appointment as the Economic Development Officer with DBERD. He is currently a Board member of the NT Indigenous Economic Development Committee, the Collection Council of Australia and the South Australian Museum. He was the joint Chairperson of the Indigenous Tourism Leadership Group and was a board member of the Australian International Cultural Council, the joint Chair of the Centenary of Federation Planning Committee, Chairman of the Central Australian Aboriginal Media Association, a Director of Imparja Television as well as Aboriginal Holdings Limited. He was a board member of The Central Australian Tourism Industry Association and member of the Northern Territory consultative committee.
The Aboriginal Art and Culture Centre won the Northern Territory Brolga Award in 1999, the Brolga Award for excellence in Indigenous Tourism and the Australian Tourism Award for excellence in Indigenous Tourism in 1997 and the TO-DO World Tourism Award for Ecologically and Socially Responsible Tourism at ITB in Berlin in 1998. In 1997 Mr Ah Chee was awarded the Alice Springs ATSIC Aboriginal Business Person of the year.
