    Judy has worked with family and workplace literacy since 1986 in projects underwritten by grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the U.S. Department of Education, the Kentucky Humanities Council, and the Kentucky Literacy Commission. She has implemented two workplace programs and serves as a consultant to several others. Presently, she directs an Even Start Family Literacy Program and serves on several literacy boards. Dr. Cheatham holds a Ph.D. in Writing Theory and Instruction from the University of Mississippi. A full professor of English, she is the Campbell Professor of Writing and the director of the adult education program at Greensboro College, North Carolina. She has written four books, including Help a Child Learn to Read and Tutor, Seventh Edition, and has edited over a dozen others. She has done consulting work in literacy, adult education, and K-12 education in 31 states since 1983.
