Kathleen Cheap, a member of the Blue Mountain Chapter, is refuge manager of Umatilla National Wildlife Refuge on the Columbia River in eastern Oregon and Washington.

Kathleen holds a B.S. in Biology and an M.S. in Wildlife Sciences. On the Refuge, she is working on several projects to restore and protect native shrub steppe habitat, riparian woodlands and wetlands. Her career has taken her to several areas of the country where she has worked on native plant community research and management in a variety of ecosystems. Her primary interests are in woodlands and grasslands and the interaction of plants and animals in those systems.
