"Currently, Task Group 2 is very close to issuing a standard," says Remi Chayer, manager of technical marketing for the microwave division of Harris Corp. The spec, says Chayer, covers the 10-66 GHz portion of the spectrum, "mostly targeting LMDS (Local Multipoint Distribution System) bands."
Chayer explains that the 802.16.2 spec was intended to create a "safe haven" by defining "recommended practices," including maximum transmission power and antenna radiation patterns, for operators transmitting in adjacent service areas. This is particularly useful, explains Chayer, if an operator's base station is near the boundary of a service area.
