I.A.S. stands for Indian Administrative Service, and is the direct successor to the elite British "Indian Civil Service".Naveen Chawla is also the biographer of Mother Teresa, and he said of her: "She had the cunning of a peasant, and could spot a sucker a mile off.She saw one in me immediately, and then from then onwards she was always pressing me to help her in her dealings with the government."
   
   He in turn arranged for us to be taken into the Governor's Palace, which was the built by the French, and then into the small museum he is rehabilitating.In the museum are artifacts of Du Pleix, the French counterpart to Clive of India.Du Pleix bested Clive in all departments, including both battle and the lavishness of his lifestyle.He was only "defeated" when others jealous of him arranged for him to be recalled to France to account for his lifestyle, including the huge palace he built for himself.This enabled Clive to triumph at last, and have the satisfaction of destroying Du Pleix's apparently magnificent palace, the stone pillars of which can be seen in the central park and on the beach front.
