ORANGE - Michael W. Chaplin Sr., 40, of 82 Mechanic St. died Friday (7-12-02) at home following an illness.

Born in Greenfield, Nov. 15, 1961, he was the son of Victor Sr. and Dellafin (Ferguson) Chaplin.He grew up in Orange and graduated in 1980 from Mahar Regional School.

Chaplin was employed by Handford General Contractors in Springfield.Previously, he worked for All-State Asphalt in Sunderland for 10 years, the former E&S Development Co. in Orange and the Orange Highway Department.

He was a member of Union 98 in Springfield.

He married the former Shelly Allen, June 28, 1986.

He enjoyed golf, hunting, his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and spending time in Maine.He also was an accomplished cook.

Besides father of Orange and his wife of 16 years, he leaves two sons, Michael W. Jr. and Tyler D., both of Orange, and two brothers, Victor and Jay, both of Orange.

Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main St., with the Rev. Stephanie Sermuksnis of the Orange United Methodist Church officiating.Interment will follow in South Cemetery.Fellow Harley-Davidson followers are requested to wear their Harley-Davidson clothes and drive their motorcycles.
