Julie Chang is a 2007 Emmy Award nominated reporter on the CW 11 Morning News.Known for her "Truly Julie" feature pieces which air on Tuesday and Thursday mornings (clips available online at: www.cw11.com/trulyjulie), Julie is also a news reporter, and her breaking news coverage helped CW11 Morning News garner an Emmy Nomination for Best Morning Show in 2006.
Julie, who was originally pursuing a career as a banker, had a dramatic change of heart regarding her career in 2000, when she went on an abroad program called "Semester at Sea."Aboard a retired cruise ship, Chang sailed around the world with 700 other students.During a span of 100 days, they visited 10 different countries, including: Cuba, Brazil, South Africa, Kenya, India, Malaysia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, China and Japan. The voyage made Chang realize that if you can't take everyone with you on a trip, you certainly can bring the places to them--through photography.Chang photographed 55 rolls of films, and felt she found her calling as a journalist.
Upon returning home, Chang began her broadcasting career as an intern at WJBK, FOX 2 Detroit. Her first on-air experience was at WUPW, FOX Toledo. She then reported, produced, and anchored for WICD, NBC Champaign.Chang came to New York City in 2004, reporting for both the WB 11 Morning News and WB11 News at Ten (now with the name change, CW11 Morning News/ News at Ten), where she has covered the Republican National Convention and the Amtrak power outage which affected thousands of New York travelers. While there are countless memorable moments for her at CW 11, Chang says running AND covering the 2005 ING NYC Marathon (yes, she trekked all 26.2 miles, while smiling for the cameras!) and learning to cope with the loss of her father through the care of her colleagues rank at the top.Recently, Julie also got to live out her lifelong dream of spotlighting her home country of South Korea for the station. She hopped on a 16-hour flight and took tens of thousands of viewers on a virtual tour of Seoul as well as Jeju Island.
Originally from South Korea, Julie moved with her family to Ann Arbor, Michigan when she was 9 years old.She graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A in Economics and attended Oxford University, in Oxford, England, where she studied the environment. She is very passionate about alleviating environmental issues, traveling and spending time with her friends and family. She lives in Manhattan.
