At least it's basically healthy, points out dad Shannon Chandler, executive chef/partner at Roy's Bonita Springs restaurant. He's the guy who prepared daughter Ioni's veggie-oriented pre-school lunches for a couple of years, and his experiences prove that even food industry professionals have to deal with picky kids.
Yes, Ioni was choosy, Chandler says, but he quickly hit on a successful formula and came up with meals she'd actually eat.
On a typical morning, the child took a lunch consisting of diced broccoli, green beans and fruit packed in Gladware with freezer packs."Or, sometimes, for the ease of the staff, I sent along prepackaged baby food like chicken stew," he recalls.
Looking back, it was a gratifying period.
"Before my wife Karen became a stay-at-home mom, I fixed Ioni's lunch every morning before I came to work.It was a good bonding experience," Chandler says.

And like Shannon Chandler, a father and son enjoy spending quality time together as they come up with ever-changing menus.
Of course, nutritionists will verify that some kids are simply finicky eaters and will only eat a limited list of foods. Most fortunately outgrow the habit, but in the meantime, parents can become extremely frustrated.
