    Scott Chandler, the city engineer, said, "I'm hoping that we do a good job of making sure that we put the pavement this year where it really needs to go." The Engineering Department will cut $522,000 from its budget, cutting it nearly in half from last year. Chandler says road projects cost much more than most people may think. He also says the $500,000 budget he is now left with, which may sound like a lot of money, will actually keep his department from serving the city like it has before.

    The city awarded the project to Dyersburg-based Ford Construction Company, which is doing the work, said Scott Chandler, assistant city engineer.

    The state also plans to expand Hollywood from Miller Avenue north to Interstate 40, but Chandler said that project has not been bid out yet.

    "By early next week, we'll be fixing up the storm drainage," Chandler said.After that, workers will start adding dirt to build up additional lanes, he said.
