Sarah Chandler

Sarah Chandler (Hay) recently earned a Master's Degree in Informal Jewish Education at JTS (Jewish Theological Seminary).Previously, she attended Brandeis University where she earned her bachelors degree in Philosophy and Near Eastern and Judaic Studies.When she first moved to New York , she worked in the "Jewish Learning and Support" programming department at the JCC in Manhattan . Last year she was the "Bring it Back To Our School" coordinator for the Teva Learning Center , where she worked with Jewish teachers to empower their students to start environmental projects at their schools.She has also taught at Sha'arei Tefilah and West End Synagogues.This summer Sarah worked as an outdoor educator at Camp Ramah in the Berkshires.Currently Sarah is working toward her masters in Biblical Literature at JTS, leading Tot Shabbat (5-7 year olds) at Anshe Chesed, and leading retreats for families in the Baltimore area on Jewish environmental themes.Sarah contributed to the Elul Issue of Ein Shemesh, the newsletter of Tel Shemesh (http://www.telshemesh.org), a website that celebrates and creates earth-based Jewish traditions and is on the blog team of the popular site Jewschool.com.

The program, led by Rabbi Lauren Kurland, Education Director, and Sarah Chandler, Youth Educator, will allow parents and pre-b'nai mitzvah children to spend the day at AC and outdoors exploring what it means to become a bar and bat mitzvah, and the importance that this transition has in our lives.
