Congratulations to Elementary Principal of the Year Valorie Chadwick
Spokane Public Schools today made a surprise announcement at Lidgerwood
Elementary School
, naming Principal Valorie Chadwick the Dick Stannard Distinguished Elementary Principal of the Year.This award is named for a much-loved Spokane Public Schools' principal who passed away in 1996.
Chadwick started with SPS as a third and fourth grade teacher at Audubon Elementary.She was a third grade teacher at Regal before serving as principal at Wilson, Adams, Hutton and now Lidgerwood.Last year, while Lidgerwood was under construction, she worked primarily out of her car, keeping in close contact with her students and staff who spent the year at three different SPS schools.
The National Distinguished Principals' Program nomination form asks for information that shows a nominee's purposeful leadership, instructional leadership, resource development and interpersonal skills.
In her nomination, Garfield Elementary Principal Joann Ekstrom explained how Chadwick is "very good at getting to the heart of the issue" and helping teachers become more effective practitioners.

Another nominator, Jefferson Elementary Principal Mary-Dean Wooley, noted that at each school where Chadwick has served as principal "she was able to establish a sense of community and to inspire staff leadership ...
