benefits explained - Jennifer Cesta, public relations coordinator for the Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County, described how the library can be of help to local businesses during the Toronto Area Chamber of Commerce's luncheon meeting Thursday at the Toronto First Presbyterian Church.
TORONTO - City Chamber of Commerce members attending Thursday's chamber luncheon meeting at the First Presbyterian Church were told how the Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County can help their businesses.
Jennifer Cesta, public relations coordinator for the library, told chamber members the library and its Web site were a gold mine of information that could be used to help their businesses.
"Librarians are information experts," said Cesta, adding the library is there for citizens' use. (Librarians) can help you get the information that you need. They can put you in the right direction.
"Everything we do is free," she continued."The amount of information we have is boundless."
Cesta said the Jefferson County library system consists of six branches along with the main branches, the Schiappa Branch, 4141 Mall Drive, and the Main Library, 407 S. Fourth St., both in Steubenville. The Schiappa Branch houses extensive reference and genealogy research libraries, while public notaries are stationed at some branches, she told the chamber.
Cesta added the library system includes an interactive Web site, at www.steubenville.lib.oh.us, that includes databases from libraries throughout Ohio.
"There are 5.5 million items in the database," Cesta said, adding most of the information can be accessed from Jefferson County library's Web site.
Library members also can e-mail questions to librarians through the site as well, she added. The library also will e-mail monthly a list of new books to arrive in the system, and the e-mails include a picture of the books and summary, said Cesta.Members can join the book club through the Internet and even download e-books online, she said.
"You can download (the books) to your computer," Cesta told the chamber."The books automatically return themselves."
Cesta said the library also offers thousands of legal documents through its Web-based data base, and those are accessible to library members.Information on everything from genealogy to car repair can be found at the library and online, Cesta said. She also said the library offers programs on a variety of topics monthly at the main and local branches.Cesta said she welcomes new ideas for programs from the public.
