Rev. James Cesta

Rev. James Cesta has been named Temporary Administrator of Blessed Sacrament/St. ary of Mt. Carmel, effective July 1, 2009. Father Cesta has recently returned from sabbatical. Prior to his sabbatical he was the Pastor of St. Joseph Church in Oswego for twelve years. Earlier appointments include being the Associate at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Endicott, Blessed Sacrament Church in Syracuse, St. Agatha's Church in Canastota, St. Rose of Lima in North Syracuse, Holy Family in Fairmount and St. John the Baptist in Rome. A native son of Our Lady of Pompei, he attended Wadhams Hall and completed his theological studies at St. Bernards. He was ordained May 18, 1974.

Father James Cesta, the pastor at St. Joseph's in Oswego, described the reconfiguration process as one in which Oswego was going from a "gas-guzzling SUV" to a sleeker, more efficient compact..He said his own parishioners were delighted that their parish would remain open.During discussions leading up to the final decision, Father Cesta said keeping St. Joseph's open was a priority given its considerable attendance and its location in the center of Oswego.

"We want people to know that our church is alive and well," said Father James Cesta, pastor of St. Joseph's Parish.

Father Cesta said the church's choir has been a source of great inspiration for the whole parish."Things have really perked up with the choir.It's growing quickly with an infusion of energy and creativity," he said.The growth has been a result of new choir director Ryan Schaffer, Father Cesta explained.

Father Cesta said it's the people of his parish that make it run so smoothly.The church currently is working on a photo wall, with all of the families and people associated with the parish.The project, titled "God's Love Revealed Here," has provided a physical representation of the size of the parish.

"It's just another thing to bring a few smiles," Father Cesta said.

Our business speaker was Diane Chappell-Daly an Immigration Lawyer and our cultural speaker was Father Jim Cesta, Pastor at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Oswego, who gave a talk on "Why the World Loves All Things Italian."

Rev. James Cesta, of St. Joseph's Church, invited all those present back to the church for soup and sandwiches and fellowship.

"It funds such crucial programs as the Newman Centers, religious education programs, hospital chaplains," said Rev. James Cesta of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Oswego.

Cesta said they are kicking off the weekend at St. Joseph's with a "Pledge Fair."

"After every mass all weekend people can come in and sign," he said."There will be refreshments, too."

According to Cesta, the assessed goals for the HOPE Appeal for all parishes has been reduced by about 12 percent.

"We'll continue our pledges until our goal has been met," said Cesta.
