Professor Arnold Cassola has been honoured by Italian President Carlo Azeglio Cimpi with the bestowal of the decoration of Cavaliere of the Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana.

Prof. Cassola has taught at the Universities of Catania and Rome La Sapienza and has been a guest lecturer at the University of Bologna and the University of Macerata.He is associate professor at the University of Malta and is the author/editor of 18 books, published inter alia in Malta and Italy.
Together with Pino Mariano, Prof. Cassola has edited an anthology of Maltese contemporary poets and with Prof. Gabriella Alfieri of the University of Catania, the work La Lingua d'Italia: usi pubblici ed istituzionali.
