   For example, if a mercury thermometer broke and spilled the liquid onto a carpeted or wood floor, it would absorb into the floor and then slowly turn into a gas, releasing fumes over a potentially long period of time, EPA toxics coordinator Ruben Casso said.

   Ruben Casso, with EPA, Region 6, mentioned that the Dallas/Fort Worth SIP should be approved in December, barring any surprises. He indicated that the Beaumont/Port Arthur SIP should be approved sometime in the next week. He added that there is a rider on the appropriations bill regarding the 8 hour standard nonattainment area designations.
