   San Francisco, CA - Mayor Gavin Newsom announced the appointment of Jim "Jimmer" Cassiol as his point person for District 8 and the LGBT community in San Francisco.

   As an active member of the LGBT community, Mr. Cassiol is well respected and regarded for his commitment to the community. In addition to his duties as LGBT liaison, Mr. Cassiol will represent the Mayor in District 8.
   
   "Jimmer has gone above and beyond his call of duty to support the LGBT community," said Mayor Newsom. "I know that he will continue to advance the cause of equality, fairness and justice that every San Franciscan deserves."
   
   Over the last several years, Mr. Cassiol has served as a community member on a number of key groups including former Board Member of the Eureka Valley Promotion Association (EDPA), the only renter on the Board of Directors of the Small Property Owners of San Francisco, and a member of the Alice B. Toklas Democratic Club and Plan C. In addition, Mr. Cassiol has been involved with Merchants of Upper Market and Castro and is active with AIDS Emergency Fund.
   
   "I am proud to have been asked by Mayor Newsom to serve as liaison to the City's LGBT community," said Mr. Cassiol.
