Paul L. Cassillo , Commissioner of Dutchess County's Department of Public Works stated , The use of copper as the choice for roofing materials will retain the distinct beauty of the County Courthouse , and restore the Old City Hall to its original appearance in a cost effective manner..Commissioner Cassillo continued , The additional initial cost of the copper roofing materials was far outweighed by the ability to extend the life expectancy of the new roofs to a potential fifty-years..County Executive Steinhaus concluded , When comparing the long-term costs of copper to alternative roofing materials over the expected 50-year life span of the new roofs , the County will save approximately $185 , 000 in replacement costs. Therefore , this project makes sense both in terms of historic preservation and in terms of the wise investment of taxpayer dollars..
