Paul Cassillo is interested in returning to the city engineer position that will be vacated when Milt Mitchell leaves the job at the end of March.

Cassillo was at Schenectady City Hall for 19 years including a dozen years at chief engineer. In 1992, he resigned to become commissioner of engineering at Dutchess County.

"Because I have experience at both the city and county levels of government, I think I could help Schenectady turn around," Cassillo said the other night.

He has been working as a private engineering consultant ever since retiring from his Dutchess County job about a year ago.

Even though Dutchess County was too far to commute, he maintained ownership of a Schenectady home for his family. He lived in an apartment in the Poughkeepsie area during the work week and returned to Schenectady on weekends.

Paul L. Cassillo , Commissioner of Dutchess County's Department of Public Works stated , The use of copper as the choice for roofing materials will retain the distinct beauty of the County Courthouse , and restore the Old City Hall to its original appearance in a cost effective manner..Commissioner Cassillo continued , The additional initial cost of the copper roofing materials was far outweighed by the ability to extend the life expectancy of the new roofs to a potential fifty-years..County Executive Steinhaus concluded , When comparing the long-term costs of copper to alternative roofing materials over the expected 50-year life span of the new roofs , the County will save approximately $185 , 000 in replacement costs. Therefore , this project makes sense both in terms of historic preservation and in terms of the wise investment of taxpayer dollars..
