Tim Cassidy Vice-President of Engineering Ault Inc
    ...
Two years ago, however, Ault was slowly being swallowed by an intensifying flow of quotation requests from customers, especially manufacturers of such medical devices as respirators and imaging devices. ,The desire is to appease all the customers,, admits Tim Cassidy, the firm,s vice president of engineering. ,Of course, you only have limited resources and you can,t do everything., Ault, however, didn,t have an efficient method for analyzing its business opportunities.
    ...
Cassidy says the new process improved on Ault,s previous product-development approach in two key ways. First, he says, ,It gave us a better framework for opportunity analysis. It brought more of a balanced scorecard approach by emphasizing certain metrics, particularly financial metrics, such as net present value calculations, cash flow considerations and payback periods. Our financial analysis just wasn,t that sophisticated in the past., In addition, Cassidy explains, the new process emphasized the importance of portfolio analysis. ,Our previous process had us making decisions on projects on a case-by-case basis. We looked at each one independent from everything else,, he says.
    ...
It,s been roughly 18 months since Ault implemented the ATOM-SME process, and Cassidy says the firm is starting to see the benefits.

In fact, evidence of the process, success is revealed in a pair of recent business opportunities Ault didn,t accept. ,By properly using the analysis tools, the people in our company bringing these opportunities came to their own conclusions that the projects shouldn,t go forward.

That saves a tremendous amount of time,, Cassidy says. ,In the past, they would have gone to the new products committee, which is a high-level committee, and there would have been considerable discussion and possibly some engineering resources deployed for some period of time before we decided they didn,t make sense for us.,

Based on these encouraging events, Cassidy is optimistic that the ATOM-SME process will enable the firm to deploy its engineers to the projects that promise the highest returns.

Ault Vice President of Engineering Tim Cassidy said, "We had a really good experience working with MTI.
