MARTHA CASSIDY, PH.D.
Dr. Cassidy was born in Washington, D.C., in 1958. She received a B.A. in chemistry from Grinnell College and a Ph.D. in biology from Georgetown University. She is the author of several scientific publications as a result of her graduate work. Dr. Cassidy received a J.D. degree in 1997 from the University of Virginia School of Law, where she was awarded a Dillard Fellowship in Legal Research and Writing. Dr. Cassidy was admitted to the bar of the District of Columbia in 1997 and is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Dr. Cassidy's particular areas of technical experience include peptide biochemistry and neurochemistry, immunology, toxicology, enzymology and cell biology. In addition, before joining the firm, she performed research involving the biophysics of thrombin adhesion to cardiac prosthetic surfaces at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She has also worked at Children's Hospital in Boston in the intensive care unit clinical chemistry department, and gained considerable experience in hand and computer searching of technical literature in environmental health, waste engineering and toxicology while working for the Center for Environmental Health and Human Toxicology in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Cassidy has experience in patent and trademark litigation matters, U.S. and foreign patient prosecution and the preparation of patentability, validity and infringement opinions. Her work has been in connection with technical fields such as agricultural and veterinary sciences, food science, organic and inorganic chemistry, molecular biology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, medical diagnostics and antibody technology.
Dr. Cassidy is a member of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Honor Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Society for Neuroscience and the American Intellectual Property Law Association.
