"We went to the FTP in our MAGIC system in the summer of 2001," says Mark Cassidy, systems analyst at Maine Medical Center. "Our purchasing group just loves it. Before (we made the switch), it was taking about two hours just to send out a day's orders. Now we get confirmations back in about five minutes." The increased efficiency contributes to approximately 15-20 percent in overall cost savings at Maine Medical Center, Cassidy says.
Maine Medical's purchasing group has a wide range of vendors available on-line from which to choose through Marketplace@NovationTM, the supply chain solution built and operated by Neoforma for Novation hospitals and their suppliers. This vendor pool was further enhanced when Neoforma formed a strategic partnership with Global Healthcare Exchange (GHX), a consortium of vendors that aggregate their supply resources on-line.
"Neoforma and GHX give us easier access to more vendors with their integrated Internet marketplace, but we have agreements with particular vendors to purchase 100 percent of certain items from them," Cassidy says. -
