Dr. John F. Cassidy, UTC's chief science and technology officer, has received the Distinguished Engineering Service Award from the University of Connecticut's School of Engineering.
The award was established in 1994 to recognize individuals who "have generously provided service, time and other resources on behalf of the school."Cassidy was chosen from a pool of highly qualified nominees by an interdisciplinary committee at UConn, school officials said.
He has played a key role in forging new contractual alliances between the School of Engineering and private industry; has helped to secure a number of significant endowments; and has served as a role model for both students and faculty.
The award was presented recently at the school's annual banquet, attended by about 500 people.
In a letter to Cassidy announcing his selection, School of Engineering Dean Amir Faghri wrote, "Your commitment to helping us achieve our highest academic and research goals, and enhancing our nationwide standing, has strengthened the future success of our institution."
