   St John of God Foundation representatives Jo Casserly and Mike Board go over plans for a long-term accommodation centre for Geraldton's homeless youths.

   St John of God Foundation chief executive Jo Casserly said youths entering the house must be "substance free" and willing to improve their lives by embarking on education and work initiatives.
   
   She said Geraldton sorely needed such a long-term accommodation service.
   
   "Geraldton already has short term accommodation providers but often they have nowhere to refer people onto after providing short term help," she said.
   
   "We hope this service will change the cycle of youths going in an out of care."
   
   Ms Casserly and St John of God Foundation Lighthouse general manager Mike Board have presented the accommodation centre concept to a host of government agencies, community groups, politicians and City and Shire representatives.

   This will pave the way for building to begin and Ms Casserly expects the centre to be open by this time next year.
   
   However, she said there was much more community consultation to do before opening the centre.
   
   "We really want the whole community to be involved with the project and get behind it," she said.
