February 08, 2006 ¤Ñ Alan Cassels, the new chief executive of DHL Express Korea, says yesterday he volunteered for the job in Korea because he was interested in a market with a "great potential for future growth." Mr. Cassels met with press at the Westin Chosun Hotel in central Seoul yesterday, his first press conference since he was appointed to the position last month. Though the local subsidiary of the world's top express delivery service company has been around for 29 years, it never had a non-Korean chief executive until now. "People ,in the Korean market, purchase items in the morning and expect them to be delivered that afternoon," Mr. Cassels said. "Customer expectations are high, and I am excited to be part of the DHL Express Korea." Asked about DHL Express's strategy for success, Mr. Cassels said staff members strive to always do their best. Motioning to the snowfall outside a window, he said that traffic jams and poor weather conditions caused by heavy snowfall are large barriers to making deliveries on time, but that it is important to keep a promise to a customer. From the pick-up to the final delivery, DHL employees are always on time, regardless of bad weather. He said that the logistics market in Northeast Asia would expand four-fold over the next 10 years. Korea's location between China and Japan, he said, makes it an important market.
