Investment Banker James Cassel to Address National Conference on Public Companies Going Private
MIAMI, Florida, June 3, 2003- James S. Cassel, president of Capitalink, L.C., a top-ranked investment banking firm headquartered in South Florida, will address senior corporate executives of public companies and other business leaders from throughout the country at a major national conference on public companies going private to be held on June 12 in Atlanta, Ga.
"This conference is very important and timely for small- to mid-cap public companies," Mr. Cassel said.He pointed out, "Increasingly, many of these companies, especially those that are undervalued, are choosing to go private.They're finding that the added regulatory pressures - especially since Sarbanes-Oxley - along with the costs, outweigh the benefits of being publicly traded."He noted, "Since the beginning of this year, far more companies have gone private than have gone public."
Topics that the conference will cover will range from "What Makes A Good Public To Private Candidate?"and "Comparing The Costs Of Being Public To Going Private?"to "Legal Issues Of Going Private Transactions."Mr. Cassel will speak on "Challenges Faced By The Financial Advisor And The Independent Board of Directors in Going Private Transactions."
In addition to Mr. Cassel, other principal speakers will include representatives of such prominent financial advisory companies as Deloitte & Touche, LLP, Duff & Phelps, Fox Paine, Inc., and Suntrust Robinson Humphrey.
As president of Capitalink and in his previous positions, Mr. Cassel has gained national recognition for his extensive experience in executing a broad scope of transactions including going private transactions, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures; corporate and transactional financing, including venture capital, mezzanine and conventional financing; public offerings, private placements and financial restructuring.
Prior to founding Capitalink five years ago, Mr. Cassel was president of Catalyst Financial, where he advised clients on financings and mergers and acquisitions.Previously, he was the managing partner of the Miami office of Broad and Cassel, one of Florida's largest law firms, where he headed the firm's corporate/securities practice.
Mr. Cassel has served on boards of directors of several companies and frequently lectures on timely investment banking issues.He is a member of the board of directors of the National Investment Banking Association, and is a member of the New York and Florida Bars.His professional involvements have also included membership in the American Association of Arbitrators, and the NASD Board of Arbitrators.He has addressed major national conferences on mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance in New York, Chicago, Miami and elsewhere.He is currently president of the Association For Corporate Growth's South Florida Chapter.
