April Cass, of April Cass Design, has established the Staten Island Remembrance Book Fund, a nonprofit organization dedicated to publishing a book featuring each lost Staten Islander by autumn.

"This book is to keep the memory of the victims alive," Ms. Cass said. "People want their family members memorialized and this is the best way."

Each victim will be commemorated by whatever personal information family members deem appropriate, whether it be a photo, poem, a biography, or a message from a child.

To date, 80 families have expressed an interest in the book and more than 20 have contributed material to be published, Ms. Cass said. There were 202 Staten Islanders killed on Sept. 11.

With the assistance of several other Island professionals, a list which includes lawyers, accountants, writers and business analysts, Ms. Cass is reaching out to victims' families who may be unaware of her project, and to Staten Island residents for funding.

The book will cost between $10,000 and $20,000 to publish, and the fund has raised roughly $4,000, Ms. Cass said. Contributions will be acknowledged in the book, and all profits will be distributed evenly between participating families, she said.

For more information on the project or to make a donation, call Ms. Cass at 448-1404.
