HNTB Corporation is pleased to announce that Hugh P. Caspe, P.E., has joined the firm as Associate Vice President, National Director of Tunnel Services.He is based in HNTB's Boston office.
Caspe is a 35-year veteran of the engineering design and construction industry and has led major multidiscipline tunneling, transportation and water/wastewater projects nationwide.He has led several of the largest environmental facility, transit and tunnel projects in the Boston area.His tunneling expertise includes soft-ground and rock tunnels and shafts, micro-tunneling, slurry walls, cofferdams, utility relations and protection of existing structures.
For the past three years, Caspe served as the principal and owner of Caspe Consulting Co., Inc., in Sudbury, Mass. Prior to that, he led the national tunnels practice for Sverdrup Corp.
He is a registered professional engineer in California, Connecticut, Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island.
Caspe also is a member of the executive committee of the American Underground Construction Association and a member of The Moles, a group of individuals engaged in underground construction.

Caspe has authored numerous papers on tunnel design and construction, addressing topics including risk management, planning of major tunnel projects, and specialized techniques for complex subsurface conditions.
