1. Reseller News Online - Citrix unveils new products, direction

Andrew Cashmore, Citrix New Zealand country manager, says Presentation Server Version 4 - the latest iteration of the vendor's flagship technology - and the new Access Gateway appliance are major releases for the company.
Citrix describes the Access Gateway, the first appliance ever to come from the company, as a universal SSL VPN device that provides a secure single point of access to any information resource.
It bridges the gap between Citrix's traditional Presentation Server deployment and web-based applications, Cashmore says.
"It allows us to own the deployment of applications space, which is where we want to go," he says. Cashmore says the appliance will also allow the deployment of voice services - a function Citrix aims to launch by the end of this year.
"It is going to be a significant part of our integrated solution and more importantly it really focuses on the security side of the business. The channel is really pumped about it."
Demand for the product is so high Citrix is having some challenges supplying it, but Cashmore is hopeful resellers will have some boxes to play with in a matter of weeks.
Meanwhile, major enhancements have been made in Presentation Server 4, says Cashmore. These include an improved print engine, with a fourfold increase in performance; CPU capability that is 25% more powerful than before and the inclusion of application siloing, says Cashmore. "The new version is significant. It offers a lot more value on top of Terminal Services, as well," he says. The company has already held technical update sessions to introduce the new technology to New Zealand resellers. "We are gaining lot of traction already," says Cashmore.
Another topic of talk at the iForum was Citrix's planned acquisition of privately held performance application networking vendor Netscaler.
"Netscaler speeds the deployment of web-based applications. Coupled with our software it will allow us to deploy applications faster than anyone else," says Cashmore. -

Andrew Cashmore, Citrix Systems' national account manager for New Zealand, said: "Using Citrix MetaFrame for the smooth and efficient rollout of Microsoft Windows 2000 illustrates perfectly how an application-server software environment can add value to an organisation through centralized management and control."
"Furthermore, MetaFrame can help Fujitsu maximise Whangarei District Council's investment in Windows 2000 by providing expanded enterprise management tools such as Dynamic Load Balancing, SecureICA Services and Installation Management Services."
