WASHINGTON, February 28 - To build the 150 gigawatts of new capacity that many expect the country will require by 2009, energy suppliers will face challenges ranging from electricity restructuring, to convergence, to the need for maintaining a diversity of supply options, according to Jack Cashin, Manager of Regulatory Policy with EEI's Alliance of Energy Suppliers.Cashin offered this perspective as part of his keynote address before Project Finance International's third-annual "Financing Power Projects in the USA 2001" conference in New York.
Cashin spoke on:
The status of restructuring and its effect on markets and strategies; The changing structure and face of the nation's wholesale power supply market; and, The many challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
As far as what the future will hold, Cashin said, "We see a market where demand will continue to grow at an unprecedented rate.
