Gephardt was joined by Kevin Cash, president of the New Hampshire Building and Construction Trades Council, who said the 18 affiliated unions of the organization were proud to support a politician who wasn't "born with a silver spoon in his mouth."

Kevin Cash, the president of the New Hampshire Building Trade, is among those who want to see the bill enacted.

"We've always been behind this (type of bill)," Cash said after Shaheen's speech.He said he has seen how recessions affected New Hampshire employees in each of the few recessions the nation experienced over the past three decades.

The latest recession is different from the other ones in a sense that "People are using more and more plastics," which would lead to a longer lasting effect of economic downturns, he said.
