Gary L. Cash, 52, is seeking the Republican nomination for Edgar County Sheriff.
Cash and his wife, Carol, have been married for 34 years. They have two children, one granddaughter and two more grandchildren will soon join the family.
He started working as a patrolman for the Paris Police Department in 1986 and was moved to an investigator's position in 1990.
While working investigations, Cash was promoted to sergeant.
He served as investigations supervisor until 2000 when he was placed in his current position of commanding a patrol shift.
A graduate of St. Mary's School and Paris High School, Cash also graduated from the University of Illinois Police Training Institute.
He has completed other police related specialized schools and has certification as a juvenile officer, fire fighter and fire investigator.
He is secretary of the Paris Police Association, member of the Edgar County Drug Task Force and a past member of both the Illinois Association of Arson Investigators and the Illinois Juvenile Offi-cers Associ-ation.
Cash is also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Paris American Legion Post 211, Edgar County Farm Bureau and the Grandview Fire Department.
