   Casey is the president of Retina Associates P.C. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, N.C. Medical Society and N.C. Eye Physicians and Surgeons. He received his bachelor's and medical doctorate degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Casey completed his internship at Roanoke Memorial Hospitals in Roanoke, Va., and his residency at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

   Internal bleeding, contusion of the optic nerve, cracks in the back of the eye, glaucoma -- that's the kind of damage Raleigh ophthalmologist Dr. Raynor Casey of Retina Associates has seen.
   
   "They all did horribly," Casey said of the young patients. "Most don't have useful vision."
   
   Triangle emergency rooms report seeing a couple of cases in recent months. Casey said he has seen about one a year for the past five years.
