Pat Casey President Pat for Clifden Chamber of Commerce
Pat Casey was elected President of Clifden Chamber of Commerce at its AGM on Thursday, 24 Jan. Pat, a Senior Bank Official at the Bank of Ireland's Clifden branch, proved to be a popular choice and was unanimously elected by the Chamber's council.
Born in Kilmary, Co. Clare, Pat Casey is married to Ann and they have two children, Kevin and Mary.

As well as here in Clifden, Pat, who has worked for the Bank of Ireland for twenty nine years, has also been based in Portumna and Gort.

Pat has previously served the Chamber in his capacity as Vice President and, as Chairman of the Clifden Lotto, is one of a small but very active group of Chamber members who are responsible for running the weekly draw. He also spearheads the town's efforts in the annual 'Tidy Towns' competition.
He told the Advertiser, "I am delighted to be given the great honour of representing the business community of Clifden in this way and I shall work tirelessly on their behalf.

Pat Casey, Chairman of the Lotto Committee, said that in 2001 alone, a total of ,38,000 (£30,000) had been won, a sum which included one lucky jackpot winner, who netted the maximum prize of ,12,700 (£10,000).

The efforts of Clifden's Tidy Towns committee were rewarded by the adjudicator in the 2001 competition, said Pat Casey, Chairman, giving his annual report at Clifden Chamber of Commerce's AGM recently.

However, Mr Casey said that the town's overall score was affected by the points awarded for 'Litter Control', 'Tidiness' and 'Roads, Street and Back Areas'. Underperformance in these aspects of the competition had been a problem for some time, he added. "Picking up litter and preventing untidiness presents everyone with an opportunity to contribute," he said.
Overflowing litter bins were singled out for specific comment by the adjudicators, who visited the town on a busy day in the summer, when visitor numbers would have been at a peak. They also praised the presentation of business premises in the town, referring to "great use of colour throughout, with window boxes and hanging baskets and some lovely traditional shop fronts." In addition, the then recently completed remodelling of Market Square was praised for the "wonderful difference it makes to the town."
Pat Casey said that it was heartening to see an improvement in the town's performance in the competition and that the judges acknowledged the efforts that had gone into the submission, but that to ensure an even better score this year, more help will be needed. He appealed for anyone interested in lending a hand to contact him or any Chamber member for details. -
