OAKLAND, Calif., Feb. 19 (AScribe Newswire) -- Today, Maria Campbell Casey, Executive Director of the Partnership for the Public's Health (PPH), announced the publication of the initiative's first annual report.PPH, a five-year, $40 million effort to create responsive partnerships between community groups and local health departments, is a project of the Public Health Institute and is funded by The California Endowment, the state's largest health foundation.
''We have prepared a report that reflects not just the tasks and goals to be accomplished,'' said Casey, ''but the human spirit and values that infuse and guide this initiative. The first section of the report is dedicated to the stories of some of the people involved in bringing the promise of this initiative to life at the community level.Through the partnership profiles, you will hear their voices, understand some of their challenges and appreciate the value of building public health leadership on the strengths that exist in a diversity of California communities.''
The report summarizes key lessons and themes that are emerging from the work of PPH's 39 local partnerships (each consisting of one community group and its local health department). These lessons touch on the role of resident leadership, the importance of mutual respect between partners, learning to communicate across language and cultural differences, synergy between strategic planning and sustainability, the promise of enhanced policy advocacy and the development of shared responsibility for the community's health and welfare.
