The group focused on the grounds, the porch and a common kitchen as the three main projects, said Kevin Casey, vice president of marketing and sales at Logical Design Solutions and president of Rebuilding Together -- Morris County.
They found that two columns supporting the porch were nearly rotted and needed to be reinforced, Casey said. All the porch railings were sanded down and repainted white. They also cleaned up under the porch, which sometimes plays host to the homeless. Casey said the home was suggested as their first project by the Junior League of Morris County, and when he visited several months ago he agreed.
"This backyard was as thick and wild as you can imagine," Casey said pointing to a yard where residents have come to expect visits recently from a deer and her fawn.
The yard was cleared of debris and overgrown shrubs were cut back.A gardener planted deer-resistant plants and a birdbath was added.A small area for barbecuing was cleared and cement steps were repaired.
Casey said the work represented 80 hours of manpower within two days.
