   Still, the commercial-door line has struggled. Griffon has said it will consider selling it.
   
   "That's one of the key unknowns," Casey said.
   
   Griffon also runs a related business that contracts with big home builders to install products such as garage doors and appliances.
   
   Garage doors make up the biggest chunk of Griffon's business, at 35% of sales. Plastics made up just a fourth of sales, but half of profit.
   
   Its plastics line counts Procter & Gamble Co. (PG) as its main customer, for which it supplies film for Pampers.

   "Now they have all this cash, and they have to decide what to do with it," Casey said.
   
   Meanwhile, the company's communication systems unit, called Telephonics, recently won a $40 million contract to retrofit the Black Hawk helicopter with communication systems.
   
   The unit provides radar and other products to defense contractors such as Boeing Co. (BA) and Lockheed Martin Corp. (LMT) It specializes in marine radar, used for drug interdiction and undersea warfare. It also makes communications systems for aircraft and naval vessels.
   
   Military funding should speed growth of the Telephonics unit.
