John J. Casey is a Partner with Tatum CFO Partners, LLP in their Dallas Office. His experience includes over 30 years focusing on entrepreneurial and closely held middle market companies in consumer products and manufacturing businesses. He worked in start-ups, fast growing companies, with turnarounds, mergers and acquisitions and management of multiple location companies. He has expertise in strategic planning, shareholder value creation, activity costing, MRP II implementations, ERP systems, debt financing, including public bonds, IT and human resource management.
John served as CFO and Treasurer at three firms over thirteen years, Pioneer Flour Mills, Brierley & Partners and Doskocil Manufacturing. John was responsible for implementing activity costing and shareholder value techniques that led Pioneer to grow sales 17% annually over ten years, to over $200 million in an industry growing 3%, while doubling after tax margins over the same period. He managed led a $100 million acquisition financed with bank debt at Pioneer and restructured nearly $200 million in debt while at Doskocil. At both companies John led implementations of MRP II, a cross-functional planning process that maximize utilization of resources, bringing together sales, operations and finance, and ERP systems implementations. John managed turnaround situations at both Brierley and Doskocil.
John led migration from a Systems 38 environment at Pioneer to a user driven ERP culture using AS 400 and Pansophic software. He helped the conversion from AS 400 JD Edwards World to distributed processing with Oracle as part of the integration of two companies at Doskocil. While at Brierley, John managed the IT department that ran large client data bases used for loyalty marketing programs.
John also served as president of Composite Technology, a small Fort Worth manufacturing company in a turnaround that was later sold to WR Grace for $11 million and was founder and president of Massimo da Milano, a chain of Italian bakery cafes in Dallas.
John spent six years with PepsiCo International and three years with Baxter Travenol International and as their domestic Distribution Controller. While at PepsiCo, John had assignments in strategic planning, finance and sales. He worked in headquarters, Egypt and Spain where he was responsible for sales for southern Europe. John spent two years leading an international desert farming and marketing consortium investing $100 million in Egypt in return for Egyptian private sector commitments increasing bottling plants from two to nine and concentrate payments in dollars instead of non convertible Egyptian pounds.
John started his career in the Peace Corps, working in the Ivory Coast's small business administration and turning around a regional development cooperative.
John holds both an MBA in international finance from Harvard Business School and a BA in Middle Eastern History from Georgetown University. He currently teaches a class in Strategic Costing at the University of Texas in Dallas. John is a frequent speaker on the use of Shareholder Value Creation and Activity Costing. He is the founder of CEO Netweavers, a group of business leaders helping business leaders. John is active in Boy Scouts, Dallas' Habitat for Humanity and on the Board of the Center for Child Abuse Prevention.
