Geibel development director Brian Casey, meanwhile, said that the agreement strengthens the school's in-place program for its students.

Brian Casey, development director for Geibel Catholic, says the service program offers students many options. Each Geibel Catholic student is required to perform 36 hours of documented service to the school, community or church.

"We have one student who chose to donate blood as part of her service. We are always looking for ways to perform service as a school as well. Currently we are looking into Habitat for Humanity," Casey says.

Brian Casey, development director at Geibel, said many of the school's religious education classes deal with bullying issues and help students learn to identify a problem.

"Bullying at any level is a major problem," Casey said."There is no major or minor to this unacceptable behavior."

"We have had fewer instances of this type of behavior possibly because our students are closely monitored and we have a strong teacher-to-student ratio."

Geibel, "like many schools, has a no-tolerance policy towards any type of aggressive or inappropriate behavior," Casey said.

But Brian Casey, director of development at Geibel, said parents would be faced with a cost similar to the elementary school tuition.

Brian Casey, development director at Geibel, said the school uses students from throughout the diocese for as many activities as possible in an effort to provide continuity, because some of the elementary schools are a long way from the high school the students will attend.

"This gives them a good introduction to the high school program and allows them to get a taste of what's in store for them in the future," Casey said.

Brian Casey, development director for Geibel in Connellsville, said many people choose a Catholic school because of faith: "Every part of our daily life - curriculum and activities - is infused with our faith."

But Casey noted the school is open to people of all faiths and that the school is respectful of those faiths.He added that many parents like a smaller school where their children have opportunities for more individualized attention.
