    Tori Carter

When 18-year-old Tori Carter started competing in pageants a few years ago, she decided to start big, choosing to enter Miss Colorado Teen USA. Her first year, 2000, she was third runner-up, and she finished 1st runner up in 2001 and 2002. Then, last December, she finally heard her name called. "The MC would call the number before the name for the final placements. I kept thinking, 'Please say my number, please say my number' and when she did, I was in complete shock. Just when I thought my cheeks couldn't be more tired from smiling so much, I couldn't stop laughing and grinning from ear to ear!"

However, that wasn't the first time Tori had handled a crown: "When I was younger I used to dress my dolls up with sashes made out of ribbon and tiaras made out of tinfoil!"

An outdoorsy girl, Tori loves every sport from skiing to skating.

The daughter of Doug and Susan Carter of Greeley, Colorado, Tori also has three brothers -- Josh, Cameron and Spencer -- and three dogs: Spike, Nattie and a new puppy named Brooke!

Preparing for the national pageant is about more than workouts, though; Tori's also about to begin rigorous process of shopping for an evening gown: "I'm really looking forward to that!"
    ...
"Like regular teenagers, they are growing up and figuring everything out," Tori says. "It is admirable to see how they have handled fame from such a young age, yet still are so down to earth and positive. Tori has been recognized for her extensive volunteer work by Channel 9 Kids Who Care, Governor Owen's "Rising Star" Service Award, and Cancer Volunteer of the Year. This smart cookie also authored the "Teen Breast Health" presentation for the American Cancer Society.

After completing a film school program in Rome last summer, Tori has decided to attend the University of Southern California, double major in cinema/television and broadcast journalism and become a film critic. "After college, I'd like to become the female version of Roger Ebert!" she says. She would love to get an internship at E! Entertainment Television or a major motion picture studio. She's currently applying to intern at Denver's NBC affiliate, Channel 4.

The most difficult part of being Miss Colorado Teen USA? "Realizing how fast one year goes," Tori says.
