Mary C. Carter
Mary C. Carter, of Charlottesville, departed this life on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, at her residence.
Born Dec. 8, 1939, in Charlottesville, she was the daughter of Catherine Robinson Crenshaw and the late James Crenshaw Sr.
She was married to her beloved husband, Willis Carter Jr. for 40 years.
Mary was a graduate of Burley High School.She was an invaluable employee of the Charlottesville School System who provided 35 dedicated years of service.Her civic involvement included board member of the Preston Minor Scholarship Fund and a Band Booster member of Charlottesville High School.
Her commitment to Christ began at an early age.She was a lifelong active member of Union Run Baptist Church and served in many capacities: a former clerk of the church, Sunday School teacher, and chair of the finance committee.
Her devotion as mother, grandmother, and a faithful friend to all was remarkable.Most notable was her enduring faith and trust in God.
In addition to her mother and her husband, she leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Kevin Carter of Allison Park, Pa., Kendall Carter, and Keith Carter, both of Charlottesville; one devoted daughter-in-law, Dorothy Carter of Allison Park, Pa.; two grandchildren, Zachary Carter and Justin Carter, both of Allison Park, Pa.; one brother, James Crenshaw Jr. and his wife, Deborah, of Faber; two devoted sisters, Eliza-beth C. Stovall and Pensacola Barbour, both of Charlottesville; two aunts, Alice Crenshaw of Long Island City, N.J. and Eleanor Robin-son of Keswick; a mother-in-law, Laura Carter of Charlottesville; two brothers-in-law, Lorenzo Carter of Charlottesville and Curtis Carter of Fluvanna County; one sister-in-law, Corlis Douglas and her husband, George, of Charlottesville; a number of nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Chapel of J.F. Bell Fu-neral Home, 108 6th St. N.W.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon at First Baptist Church, 735 Park St. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
