Kerry Carter takes care of family before fulfilling dream

A desire to teach started at a young age for Kerry Magouirk Carter.
"It had always been there," said Kerry."Ever since I was a small child I thought about it a lot."
That desire didn't a become reality until Kerry reached the age of 47.
Kerry was a stay-at-home mom for her three sons before going back to school to get a teaching certificate and degree in family and consumer science from Jacksonville State University.
She spent the first seven years of her teaching career at the Etowah County Career Technical Center.This is her second year as instructor of early childhood education at the Calhoun County Career Technical Center.
"I really like it a lot," said Kerry.

Kerry and her students prepare the children for kindergarten.
Kerry says the tech center is a gateway for teens to find meaningful careers and to learn necessary skills to support a family.She considers it a privilege to be in a position to promote a positive image for the school.
Kerry said the first year she taught was "totally overwhelming I took my students on a field trip and they introduced me as their teacher.And I looked around to see who they were talking about.
Kerry said she gives her students encouragement every day.
"I let them know that it's never too late to do what they want in life," she said.
Kerry was born in Ohatchee.She and her husband, Douglas, live in the Boiling Springs community, about five miles from Ohatchee.They are members of Chapel Hill Church of Christ in Pell City.Douglas works at Premiere, a company that contracts work with Honda.
Their sons don't live far from Kerry and Douglas.David and his wife Jem live in Piedmont.They have two children, Jonathan and Rebekah.Philip lives in Wedowee and Paul and his wife Renee live in Auburn.
Kerry enjoys cross stitch, painting, ceramics, sewing and cooking.
"Cooking was my first love," said Kerry.
