"We've got a significant cold front moving in and a good chance of rain tonight, which we expect to begin changing over [to snow] very late," Beth Carroll, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Huntsville, said Thursday.
However, she said significant accumulation is not expected.
"The ground is going to be moist and soft from the rain, so accumulation isn't likely. Our expectations are that if there is any, it will be in the higher elevations on Lookout Mountain or Sand Mountain," she said.
Carroll said snow most likely would begin after 3 a.m. on Saturday, a day that is expected to be a cloudy and blustery day with a 30 percent chance of measurable snow, highs of 31 to 37 degrees, and northwest winds from 10 to 15 mph.
