Greenville (December 3, 2001) – The Historic Greenville Foundation is pleased to announce that William L. Carpenter has been selected as the new Chairman of the Advisory Board of Governors for the Foundation and the Greenville Regional History Museum.Carpenter succeeds Greenville philanthropist, Alester G. Carpenter, a professional engineer, is a graduate of the U. S. Naval Academy and North Carolina State University.His vast business career included serving as President and CEO of J. E. Sirrine Company, Sirrine Environmental Consultants, SEC Donohue, Inc. and more recently as Chairman of RUST Environment and Infrastructure.
Many organizations throughout the community have benefited from Carpenter's leadership.He served on the board of the United Way of Greenville County, Greenville County Development Board, St. Francis Hospital, and the Greater Greenville Chamber of Commerce.Other board memberships include the S. C. State Development Board and the S. C. Research Authority, Advisory Board for the Southern Connector and Palmetto Society.Carpenter served as chairman of the Campaign Committee for St. Francis Women's Hospital and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Richard Furman Society and Campaign Executive Committee at Furman University.

The Advisory Board of Governors for the Historic Greenville Foundation is comprised of 30 civic and corporate leaders who serve the important role of helping to convey the mission of the Foundation to the broader community, especially other civic and corporate leaders, and to build support for the Foundation and its work including the establishment of the Greenville Regional History Museum.
