"It's a big deal for a 7-year-old to move to another class," said Amy Carpenter, a second-grade teacher at Chestnut Mountain.

By this time of year, if not before, students have established close friends and, in many cases, a strong rapport with the teacher.

"It's sad if (a student has) to leave," Carpenter said.
