Meridian Intermediate School principal Paul Carlton and his wife, Quendy, a teacher, traveled to Egypt for their honeymoon in 1996.A gift from Quendy,s parents, the trip was a marvelous other-worldly experience, according to Paul.Their seven-day whirlwind tour included viewing pyramids, the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens, the Temple of Carnac, Nefertari,s tomb, a carpet-making school and other handicrafts, and a dinner cruise on the Nile.
The Carlton,s trip was arranged through Franklin Travel, at a cost of about $2,500 per person. ,They take care of a lot of details, but you,re tied to their schedule,, said Paul Carlton.

To reach the various sites, Paul and Quendy traveled by bus, marveling at Egyptian culture. ,We got to see the villagers, farmers tilling fields.We got to interact with the kids.It made us appreciate America and what we have, when other countries are so poor,, said Paul Carlton.
