Dr. Carlisle
...
Dr. Carlisle, Lake Saskatoon, 1921
...
Dr. A. M. Carlisle from Peterborough, Ontario was the attending physician in Lake Saskatoon from 1921 until 1924.In his memoirs of his stay, he recalls his new 1921 Model T Ford with the "first ever" self starter that wouldn't start in forty below unless he poured boiling water in the radiator ... not once but twice. He kept two pails of water simmering on his office stove in the cold weather.A cutter and team was te most reliable for winter travel and in the spring and fall, a buggy and team were used on the clay roads and prairie trails.
When he used his car for the occasional trip, spring happened to be the worst as the snow would melt, forming pools of water that would freeze overnight. He broke through one of these traps at 4:30 a.m. and found himself stuck.

Dr. Carlisle replied, "One good pull deserves another."
He had been accepted as in intern for year in surgery at the Sick Children's Hospital in Toronto.
